Welcome and Announcements
- Christy, Mike Neal & Ann Sanders will announce our latest grant award
of $2,500 from ASCD/KASCD! It will provide seed money to a few districts
who want to host a structured conversation.
- Christy will announce a KSDE Title II grant project that KLFA will
assist with related to teacher quality.
Math Study Report
- Sheryl Spalding, Margie Hill, Ethel Edwards, and Sherrill Martinez
will give an update about the statewide math study KLFA is sponsoring with
KSDE. This project is partially funded by the Ewing Marion Kauffman
Foundation ($50,000).
Website Demonstration
- The TeachKansas Advisory Committee will demonstrate our new website
and present a draft of policy guidelines for submitting material to be
posted.
Summit 2003—Kansas Leads the Way with ESEA!
- Christy Levings will update us about a Summit we are co-sponsoring
with KSDE in January. The purpose is to interact with representatives from
the federal level about the latest ESEA requirements.
Constitution Update
- Christy Levings will take a count of organizations that have already
approved the proposed KLFA Constitution. Incorporation efforts will also
be discussed.
Workgroups Meet Through Lunch (Be prepared to pay $6 for a box lunch of
sandwich, chips, & cookie)
- Student Achievement: Deb Larson & Sheryl Spalding, Team Leaders
- Math: Plan next steps in math study.
- Reading: Hear about Regional IRA conference in Topeka in October and
consider follow-up ideas.
Reports From Workgroup: Each workgroup will have 15 minutes to report
Answer the following questions:
- Consider compiling and posting on website information about statewide
conferences of our member organizations.
- Professional Development: Lisa Brookover& Sandee Crowthers, Team
Leaders
- Update about LEPC presentation and generate ideas for regional
meetings related to KSDE Title II Grant project.
- Public Engagement: Tom Krebs & Don Knowles, Team Leaders
- Update about Community Conversation presentations and develop method
for distributing ASCD/KASCD mini-grants.
- Plan ways to support a conversation hosted by the Business/Education
Coalition.
- Develop “talking points” for ESEA to post on website.
- Consider what needs to be done draft “Articles of Incorporation.”
Questions to consider for report out:
- What are you planning?
- What do you need from others?
- What needs to be communicated to our member organizations?
What’s the “Big Picture” for KLFA?
- Christy Levings will help us identify the key work and common themes
among the three workgroups.
“Homework for KLFA Representatives
Members will generate “talking point” bullets to report to their
respective organizations about our meeting today.
