News and Notes:  Agenda
November 1, 2001

Location:  KASB Building, 1420 SW Arrowhead Dr., Topeka

Time:  9:30-2:30 (Workgroup Team Leaders meet beginning at 8:45 to plan workgroup time)

9:30      Review initial ideas for KLFA website

The steering committee met with Blake West to begin a framework for creating a KLFA website.  We hope to email you a copy of the initial ideas before the meeting.  Once we have had a large group discussion, we will toss this back to the Student Achievement Workgroup to continue developing.

10:15    Consider official action on the Math Position Paper

10:25    Hear report about the State Board School Finance Plan

Due to “popular request,” Christy will be inviting someone from the State Board to attend our meeting to explain their school finance proposal.  She may also try to arrange someone to discuss the Coalition’s Plan as a comparison.

11:10    Review and discuss draft Constitution

I will attach a REVISED copy of the draft Constitution.  Christy and Tom will “talk through” the content of it.  Up to this point we have been working together very informally.  This document will begin to formalize the relationship.

11:30    Workgroup time through lunch (Be prepared to pay $5 to $6 for sandwich lunch)

Student Achievement:  Deb Larson & Sheryl Spalding, Team Leaders

Consider results of surveys, plan math presentations at fall conferences, continue developing the KLFA website, and consider math review ideas included in Kauffman grant proposal

Professional Development:  Lisa Brookover & Dave Winans, Team Leaders

Debrief about October Summit, follow up on advocacy, and begin planning for national legislator Round Table

Public Engagement:  Tom Krebs & Don Knowles, Team Leaders

Review potential structured conversations, begin considering language for by-laws

1:20      Report About State PD Summit

How did it go?  Did you attain the results you wanted? When can KLFA members get a draft of the revised rubric?

1:35      Advocacy Project—Reports from all members

Are the school visits occurring?  What have been the reactions of legislators to our messages?  Is there more we need/want to do with this project?

1:45      Workgroup Sharing (limited to 15 minutes per workgroup)

  • How did you spend your worktime?

  • What are you planning?

  • What help do you need from others?

  • What needs to be communicated to our member organizations?

2:30      Adjourn

Christy promises to have us end on time!
